Dutch Corner - Any Colour as long as it's Orange
These are images from a feature story I shot for magazines in the USA and UK. Dutch Corner is a hairpin number seven on Alp D'Huez, France. For some reason various Dutch cyclists have had major success on this agonising climb despite coming from a country that is predominantly below sea level! The fans weren't too slow to notice this and soon the hairpin where the Église Saint-Ferréol stands was awash with orange and smelling of `Heineken. The fans come to celebrate and party. A week-long piss up for some. I won't go into the history and detail here, but this is a link to some of the feature I shot for Cyclist Magazine. Suffice to say, if you want a day out listening to banging House music whilst hundreds of Netherlanders row imaginary boats along the tarmac, then this is where to head. or you could go two hairpins down where the Irish have set out their stall. You know, for the craic....
